Years 9-11 Curriculum

As students of this college, we believe that the curriculum for Years 9-11 provides a diverse academic experience that equips us to make well-informed educational choices. In Year 9, we continue with familiar subjects while also exploring new ones. The school follows a 58-lesson program within a two-week cycle, giving us ample time to complete our homework in school, whether we are day students or boarders.

Moreover, the presence of societies like the Hayman Society for junior scholars ensures that Year 9 offers opportunities for academic development. As we progress to Year 10, we are given the chance to make decisions about our education. The curriculum balance shifts from being mainly compulsory in Year 9 to having a higher percentage of optional subjects.

Sixth Form Transition

We appreciate that the school considers making GCSE choices as the start of a lifelong process of decision-making about our education. The flexibility of the school timetable allows us to study subjects that interest us and in which we believe we can succeed. This unique approach enables us to complete Year 11 with between 9 and 11 GCSEs, or even more, based on our individual needs and abilities. It is evident that the school is committed to ensuring that we have the best possible foundation for our future academic and career paths.

Preparing for University

Upon entering the sixth form, we experience a significant transition, with greater freedom in choosing our subjects and the opportunity to delve deeper into areas of interest. Our teachers encourage us to take greater responsibility for our learning and guide us through the course, assigning tasks to develop our understanding.

We understand the importance of the preparation for independent study at university or in our future careers in the sixth form. Before starting our Eastbourne sixth-form education, we acknowledge the need to commit to investing time and effort in rigorous academic work.

Typically, most sixth form students will complete their A-levels by the end of Upper Sixth, with some students finishing three or four A-levels.
