Approach and Planning
Frensham Heights School offers diverse courses that help children develop their unique abilities. The core curriculum covers mathematics, sciences, languages, and literature, treating all disciplines as equally important so students can chart their own path. What sets this place apart is how children shape their own learning plans based on interests and goals, while small classes create space for personalized attention and discussion-based learning.
Methodology at Frensham Heights School
Drawing inspiration from Platonic ideals, the approach here emphasizes developing thought rather than memorization. Unusually, homework gets assigned only when it’s truly needed for understanding material. There’s also careful attention to psychological comfort—students aren’t overloaded, which leaves room for rest and play. This balance supports healthy personal development.
Primary School at Frensham Heights School
The Early Years programme starts with a play-oriented model that fosters development through exploration. It covers social skills and communication as children actively investigate the world around them.
Lower grades focus on mathematics, English, and natural sciences, with additional sessions including dance, music, and theatre. Each lesson considers individual strengths that every child brings.
Middle School Programmes
Years 7 and 8 strike a balance between academic and creative subjects. Students explore geography, history, and other essential disciplines like philosophy, IT, and physical science, with one weekly hour dedicated to mentor conversations.
From Year 9, GCSE preparation begins as students tackle up to 10 subjects, mixing compulsory ones with electives. For the latter, they must choose one humanities subject, one creative discipline, and one language.
Sixth Form at Frensham Heights School
In Sixth Form, students create their own individualized plans by choosing from over 25 subjects, including classical A-Levels and BTECs. This range allows them to develop interests that genuinely matter for their futures.
