GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi follows International Baccalaureate programs alongside England’s National Curriculum. After its founding on Al Reem Island in the Najmat district, the school moved to a purpose-built campus in 2022, where modern facilities support inquiry-based learning. Families from Al Reem, Al Khalidiya, Corniche Road, Saadiyat Island, and other capital districts benefit from this accessible location. The community speaks 33 languages across cultures from every continent, while maintaining an 11:1 student-teacher ratio that allows 27 teaching assistants to shape personalized learning pathways.

Accreditations and Achievements

The Council of International Schools, which brings together over 1,530 institutions across 122 countries, has authorized GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi. Having earned the right to teach IB Primary and Middle Years programs, the school launched its Diploma and Career-related programs in August 2026, completing a full IB continuum. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Education awarded the school an overall “Very Good” rating, particularly recognizing achievements in student personal development and safety provisions. The school’s transport partner has earned RoSPA gold awards for fleet safety alongside international ISO certifications.

Programs at GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi

The academy builds education from early years through graduation by integrating all IB stages. Foundation and primary levels (FS1-Year 6) follow the Primary Years Programme’s play-based and interdisciplinary approach, nurturing curiosity through inquiry projects. Middle years (7-11) encompass eight disciplines alongside a community service project and individual research work. From 2026, senior students choose between the IB Diploma Programme—an academic pathway with six subjects, theory of knowledge, and extended essay—or the IB Career-related Programme, which blends international coursework with professional preparation in business, technology, or healthcare. This inquiry model develops critical thinking and metacognition throughout.

Beyond Academics

Students at GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi grow through sports, technology, and cultural initiatives. Physical education includes netball, basketball, football, and swimming in a 25-meter pool, while six sports courts provide ample training space. A fitness center opened in August 2025 for senior students. The Innovation Studio lets students explore robotics and virtual reality, with teams competing in Greenpower and LEGO Robotics challenges. Leadership develops through Model UN, student elections, and mentorship programs, while events like International Day and World Book Day connect the school’s 80 nationalities through shared cultural experiences.
