Founding and Early Years (1893-1901)

George School, nestled in Newtown, Pennsylvania, traces its roots back to 1893 when it was founded as a Quaker boarding school. Backed by the generosity of a wealthy Quaker benefactor, the school took shape with the construction of its inaugural building, “Main,” in 1892. This structure, standing tall even today, serves as a testament to the institution’s enduring legacy.

Initially helmed by George Maris, the school championed the concept of “guarded education,” striving to shield students from the influences of the outside world. However, despite Maris’ earnest efforts, the mantle of leadership shifted to Joseph Walton in 1901.
