Life and Atmosphere in Boarding Houses

Boarding houses form the heart of Glenalmond College, where students spend most of their time surrounded by care and support that helps them feel comfortable away from home. Experienced mentors foster each student’s personal growth while recently refurbished common rooms provide modern spaces for relaxation and connection. The institution understands that a comfortable environment directly influences academic success, which is why every detail has been thoughtfully designed with student wellbeing in mind.

Updated Infrastructure at Glenalmond College

Following a major modernization programme, the college has significantly enhanced daily life quality. A new Senior Centre now offers older students a contemporary space designed around their needs, while all boarding houses have received over 300 new mattresses from renowned British manufacturer Button & Sprung. Made from natural, eco-friendly materials with high body support standards, these mattresses have already improved sleep quality—something students say has positively affected their energy and overall wellbeing.

Senior Centre

The Moncrief Centre serves as a licensed club where older students gather throughout the day and evening, helping them transition smoothly from school to university life. Social activities include three formal balls celebrating St. Andrew, Robert Burns, and Valentine’s Day, plus a farewell ball for graduates. What makes this particularly valuable is that the student social committee decides on events, which develops independence and responsibility among young people preparing for adulthood.

Chapel and Christian Values

Six days a week, the entire school community gathers in the chapel—a practice that strengthens unity and provides time for reflection. Services are led by the resident chaplain, often joined by students, teachers, and guest speakers. Despite its Episcopal roots, Glenalmond College welcomes people of different denominations and perspectives, with services structured so everyone feels comfortable regardless of faith. Christian values of honesty, tolerance, equality, and forgiveness permeate daily life here.
