History and Evolution

Grand River Academy, Ohio, traces its roots back to 1831 when it was established as the Ashtabula County Institute of Science and Industry by leaders from the Austinburg Congregational Church. Originally conceived to prepare young men for ministerial roles, it gradually evolved to include female students by 1840. Over the years, it underwent name changes, transitioning from the Ashtabula County Institute of Science and Industry to the Grand River Institute before finally adopting its current name, Grand River Academy.

Situated in Austinburg, Ohio, Grand River Academy sprawls across a 200-acre campus along the Grand River. The campus boasts various facilities including a gymnasium, the Robert Morrison Lecture Center, and the Bud Field Student Center. Students find accommodation in five dormitories: Shepard Hall, Mastin Hall, West Hall, North Hall, and South Hall.
