Questions

Languages and Bilingualism

How to support a child in a bilingual environment?

A child’s brain naturally handles multiple languages at once, developing the ability to switch between them depending on context. To support this, create a linguistic environment at home by reading books, listening to music, and conversing in both languages—many families find the “one parent, one language” approach particularly effective. If you notice any speech delays, a speech therapist can recommend appropriate methods tailored to your child’s needs.

What level of English is needed for middle school admission?

When enrolling in H-FARM International School’s MYP1 program, children coming from Italian schools take an English proficiency test. If their level proves insufficient for the curriculum, the school arranges mandatory language support to help them catch up. This ensures that all students can fully participate in their coursework from the start.

What English level will the child achieve?

By graduation, students can reach Advanced Cambridge (C1) according to the European classification framework. This proficiency level allows them to study and work comfortably in English-speaking environments, opening doors to universities and careers worldwide without language barriers holding them back.

Are all classes in English?

Yes, the school conducts all subjects in English, with the natural exception of Italian language classes and other foreign language courses. This immersive environment helps students develop fluency while they engage with academic content across disciplines.

IB Program and Methodology

How is the subject system organized in elementary school?

The PYP program moves away from traditional subject divisions. Instead, students explore six transdisciplinary themes—”Who We Are,” “Where We Are in Place and Time,” “How the World Works,” and others—which allows them to develop research, communication, and self-management skills while making connections across different areas of knowledge.

Why does the program differ from Italian?

H-FARM International School follows the IB curriculum, which prepares students for life in a rapidly changing world by developing their creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration abilities. To learn more about how this approach benefits your child’s education, schedule a meeting with the school’s coordinators, who can explain the philosophy in detail.

How are students assessed?

Elementary students receive criteria-based assessments ranging from EE (exceeds expectations) to BE (below expectations), while middle school students earn grades on a scale from 1 to 7, where 7 corresponds to an Italian 10. This system focuses on understanding what students have mastered rather than simply comparing them to peers.

How much homework is assigned?

H-FARM International School assigns homework to reinforce what students have learned in class. Teachers carefully consider each child’s age when determining workload, striking a balance that develops independence while leaving enough time for rest and activities outside of school.

Diplomas and Universities

What if the child wants to return to the Italian education system?

At the end of MYP3 (8th grade, terza media), the school offers all students the opportunity to take the national exam at an Italian public school and receive certification for completing the first stage of secondary education. Between 2016 and 2023, all graduates passed this exam with an average score of 8.4, compared to the national average of 7.2.

Do Italian universities recognize the IB diploma?

Italian universities recognize the IB diploma according to the decree of October 30, 1986. For admission, students need to choose one of the options specified by the Italian Ministry of Education—you can find detailed information through the IB legalization service, which guides families through the requirements.

Do universities accept Career-related Programme?

Many universities in the USA, UK, Switzerland, France, and Italy welcome IBCP graduates. The school’s career counseling department contacts universities directly to confirm their specific requirements and assist students throughout the application process, ensuring that each graduate finds the right path forward.

Admission and Adaptation at H-FARM School

What to do if the child doesn’t speak Italian?

For enrollment in classes from MYP1 through MYP3, students need to pass an entrance assessment. You can find detailed information about requirements and the exam on the school’s page dedicated to admission procedures and conditions, which outlines what to expect at each stage.

What if the child isn’t ready for international high school?

For high school students without prior international education experience or with insufficient English, the school develops an individual plan spanning six months to a year. During April and May, an expert meets with each student to review their academic history, interests, and goals before creating a personalized preparation program that addresses their specific needs.
