Duke of Edinburgh Award

Heathfield School runs the international Duke of Edinburgh programme, offering Bronze and Gold levels that build independence and teamwork. For Bronze, training happens during the school day, while staff coordinate the expeditions. Participants spend three months on volunteering, physical activity, and skill development before completing a two-day expedition. The Gold Award journey begins in Lower Sixth with external specialists joining the programme, and expeditions take place in scenic locations like Brecon Beacons.

Portfolio at Heathfield School

Rooted in the school’s values, the portfolio helps students build skills for life beyond their time here. It covers areas like community connection, problem-solving, independent learning, and collaboration. Girls earn Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards based on what they achieve and document, which gives them something tangible to show future employers or universities.

Mental Health Programme

Heathfield School was the first in the UK to adopt Australia’s Positive Education Programme, which supports wellbeing through yoga, meditation, and positive psychology strategies. Classes run weekly or fortnightly for Forms I through III. Meanwhile, Form IV students can train as mental health mentors, where they study psychology, listening skills, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.

Leadership at Heathfield School

Lower Sixth students take on various roles, from team captains to academic prefects. Community Prefects build connections with local primary schools and charities. At Brontë Boarding House, leadership development starts even earlier—younger students can launch clubs and events, turning their ideas into reality.
