About the School
Heathfield School is a small boarding and day school that welcomes girls aged 11 to 18. Its happy and safe atmosphere helps them discover passions and unlock talents while building confidence. The programme prepares students for 21st-century realities, blending academic skills with essential life qualities.
Heathfield School Values
The community’s philosophy centres on forming strong social bonds and friendships. Students develop empathy, respect, and independence, which complement their growing confidence. Beyond the timetable, a continuous learning programme operates, while weekends are filled with sporting and recreational activities that support holistic personal development.
History
Founded by Eleanor Beatrice Wyatt in 1899, Heathfield School settled on 36 acres in Ascot, Berkshire. Originally a co-educational establishment in South Kensington, its growing popularity forced several relocations. The official opening took place on 8 May 1899 in a building formerly owned by the Paravasini family, where teaching focused on preparing specialists.
Heathfield School Development
St. Mary’s Wantage, which Father W. J. Butler established in 1873, sought to revive religious life and improve educational processes. By 1919, this establishment, managed by the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, was renowned for high teaching standards. The merger with Heathfield School in 2006 united the heritage and values of both organisations on the Ascot site.
Changes
The boarding system underwent transformations to eliminate misunderstandings about full boarding. In 2022, the option to stay for 5 nights per week appeared, while 2023 saw the launch of a flexible boarding programme: 1, 2, or 3 nights. Day students, first admitted in 2015, became an important part of the community and gained access to all resources on equal terms with boarders.
