Foundation Education Programme

Foundation Education Programme

Between years 7 and 9, students at Kensington Park School explore a broad curriculum that helps them understand their strengths before choosing specializations. While core subjects like mathematics, science, English, and PE remain constant, they also sample diverse electives:

  • History and Geography
  • Religious Studies
  • French, Spanish, and Mandarin
  • Latin
  • Art, Drama, and Music
  • Computer Science
  • Classical Civilization (from Year 9)

As they reach Year 9, the focus begins to narrow in preparation for GCSE. This is when their three-year science course launches, giving them extended time for practical investigation before examinations.

GCSE and Intensive Preparation

The two-year GCSE programme in Years 10-11 combines academic rigour with genuine choice. Students take ten subjects: compulsory mathematics, English language and literature, a modern language, and three sciences fill half the timetable, while they select the remaining three from options that span:

  • Latin and Classical Civilization
  • A second modern language
  • Art, Drama, and Music
  • Photography
  • Business (available from Year 10)
  • Religious Studies

Without rigid option blocks, timetables adapt to individual interests. Classes of twelve allow teachers to monitor progress closely, which shows in results—66% of grades fall between 6 and 9. Meanwhile, international students aged 15-16 transitioning into the British system can pursue an intensive one-year GCSE that covers five subjects: Business, Double Science, English, and Mathematics.

A-levels at Kensington Park School

In Years 12-13, students concentrate on three or four disciplines chosen to match university and career ambitions. Many begin with four subjects in Year 12 before focusing on three the following year. The Sixth Form occupies a dedicated building on Queen’s Gate, where lessons are led by A-level specialists—some of whom work as examiners.

The programme encompasses mathematics, sciences, English literature, PE, and an extensive selection of electives:

  • Further Mathematics
  • Business and Economics
  • Computer Science
  • French, Spanish, and Latin
  • History and Geography
  • Government and Politics
  • Classical Civilization
  • Art, Craft and Design
  • Drama and Theatre
  • Music
  • Film Studies
  • Photography
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
