Performing Arts Heritage

Lancing College has produced notable alumni in performing arts, which its scholarship program continues to nurture by offering students a platform to excel in Music and Drama—both available as A Level subjects. The environment welcomes everyone, from beginners to those refining their craft, and the school takes pride in seeing its students progress to institutions like the Northern Royal College of Music. Through diverse performing arts activities, pupils develop confidence and teamwork while discovering their artistic voice.

Dance and Movement at Lancing College

The curriculum incorporates dance into Third Form PE lessons and offers it as a GCSE PE option. Students explore everything from ballet fundamentals to contemporary expression, with classes accommodating all skill levels. While ballet emphasizes discipline and physical control, contemporary dance encourages rhythm and personal interpretation. Additional offerings include yoga and pilates for physical and mental benefits, alongside Street Jazz—a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and funk that cultivates individuality and coordination through energetic movement.

Drama and Music

The 156-seat theatre and Cherry Hall studio host annual productions like “Amadeus” and “Legally Blonde,” alongside the outdoor Founder’s Day performance and the Donald Bancroft one-act play competition. Backstage roles in stage management, lighting, and sound are equally accessible. The music department, supported by scholars, runs 30-40 concerts yearly and offers orchestras, choirs, and clubs. Masterclasses with distinguished musicians and an informal classical music society enrich the experience, while the chapel choir’s cathedral performances showcase the school’s musical ambitions.
