North Bridge House Nursery & Pre-Prep Schools boast a legacy that weaves through the history of education since their inception in 1939. Initially founded as a junior and preparatory school in the heart of St John’s Wood, London, their story is marked by growth, adaptation, and a deep-rooted commitment to nurturing young minds.

Evolution Through Decades

The schools’ landscape began transforming significantly in the 1950s when it relocated to 8 Netherhall Gardens in Hampstead, which now accommodates the Pre-Preparatory (Junior) School. This change heralded a new era, especially through the 1960s, with the older Prep School students moving closer to Regent’s Park and the inception of the nursery in a scenic Victorian villa on Fitzjohn’s Avenue. The 1980s saw further expansion, notably with the Prep School’s move to a former convent in Gloucester Avenue and the birth of the Senior School.

Officially establishing themselves in 1957, as per their Unique Reference Number (URN) 100068, the North Bridge House Nursery & Pre-Prep Schools embarked on a journey of providing an enriching early education. Their growth story continued into 2012, with a significant merger with the Royal School, Hampstead, and the establishment of the North Bridge House Senior School in Canonbury, showcasing a commitment to educational excellence across various age groups.

As members of the Cognita group since its founding in 2004, the Nursery & Pre-Prep Schools draw upon a global network of educational expertise, ensuring a non-selective, inclusive approach for children aged 2 to 7 years. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to foster individual growth and prepare students for a successful academic journey, emphasising a broad and balanced learning experience.

Recognition and Creative Learning Spaces

In 2022, the daynurseries parent review site named the West Hampstead location a Top 20 London Nursery, a testament to the schools’ innovative educational approach. Known for their immersive learning environments and holistic child development philosophy, they provide a rich curriculum that includes special features like immersive rooms and Forest School experiences.

Locations and Leadership

The Nursery & Pre-Prep Schools are strategically positioned across London to cater to families in various locales. The Nursery School on Fitzjohn’s Avenue serves children aged 2 to 4, the Pre-Preparatory School on Netherhall Gardens accommodates ages 4 to 7, and the combined Nursery and Pre-Preparatory School on Fordwych Road in West Hampstead welcomes children aged 2 to 7.
