School Approach

Queenswood offers a diverse program built on intellectual development and a research-based approach. Girls study natural sciences, humanities, languages, and the arts, achieving results at least one grade above the average for independent schools. Graduates regularly gain places at leading universities worldwide, reflecting the quality of preparation and academic culture that the school has cultivated over many years.

Years 7-8 at Queenswood School

At this stage, the program develops independence and curiosity through a broad range of disciplines: art, computer science, design and technology, drama and dance, English, French, geography, history, Latin, mathematics, music, physical education, and sciences. Spanish and Japanese are added in Year 8. Homework is set weekly, with girls able to complete it at home or under supervision—this helps develop self-reliance.

Program for Years 9-11

Girls choose their examination subjects, drawing on guidance from tutors and parents. English language, literature, mathematics, and combined sciences remain compulsory, while additional options include art and design, computer science, classical civilization, dance, design technology, geography, and other disciplines. This approach allows each student at Queenswood School to shape her academic path according to her strengths and interests.

The core program includes general studies and physical education. The popular EPQ project is valued by universities. Girls also attend lectures and courses that complement traditional subjects, broadening their intellectual horizons beyond the standard curriculum.

Career and Future Preparation

Career preparation is integrated across all subjects, including personal development sessions. In Years 7-8, sessions focus on personal skills. Year 9 marks the beginning of subject choices based on career plans. In Year 10, Queenswood School organizes workshops and aptitude tests for career guidance, helping girls understand their professional inclinations and the pathways available to them in different fields.

Universities and Queenswood School

The Sixth Form focuses on university applications and higher education preparation. The school has dedicated careers offices and provides information about universities in the UK and abroad. Annual briefings cover US universities. Students receive help with applications requiring specific elements and can participate in university-related events, ensuring they’re well-prepared for the next stage of their academic journey.
