Extracurricular Activities

Range of Clubs and Sections

Besides academics, the College encourages students of all ages to explore diverse interests through its extensive activity programme. While younger pupils from Reception to Year 6 engage in age-appropriate clubs, those in Years 3-6 can already join senior school sections—taking part in the College choir, playing in the orchestra, or even learning clay pigeon shooting with older students.

Traditional options like soccer, swimming, tennis, and hockey stand alongside less common pursuits:

  • Forest School
  • Stop-motion animation
  • LEGO Club
  • Fighting sports
  • Gardening and nature study
  • Fencing
  • Golf
  • Pop lacrosse
  • Clay pigeon shooting
  • Eco Club

Living Independently

Upper Sixth students spend two week-long periods each year at The Old Rectory, where they navigate adult responsibilities entirely on their own. Managing personal budgets, they shop for groceries, cook meals, clean, and do laundry—while also hosting weekly dinners for staff members who come to sample their culinary efforts. This practical experience ensures that Rendcomb graduates leave well-prepared for university life or employment.

Leadership Development at Rendcomb College

The senior school runs its own leadership programme, selecting prefects through formal interviews. Students serve on school committees, and those in Lower Sixth study their rights and duties while learning teamwork skills. The Buddy Scheme pairs seniors with Year 7 newcomers for weekly mentoring sessions, while Upper Sixth pupils complete the Myers Briggs professional assessment, which helps them identify suitable career paths.

Extracurricular Achievements and Guest Speakers

Students can earn the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through expeditions across Dartmoor, Exmoor, and the Black Mountains—combining volunteering, skill development, and physical training before attending the ceremony at St. James Palace. The College also welcomes notable speakers, from adventurer Fran Sandham, who walked across Africa, to National Film School director Nick Powell and professional athletes, exposing pupils to perspectives far beyond their curriculum.
