Years 7-9 girls benefit from a comprehensive three-year coordinated course focused on embedding key skills in various aspects of drama. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of techniques including Improvisation, Shakespeare & Voice, Greek Theatre, Staging 20th Century Texts, Theatre in Education, and Ensemble.
Roedean Theatre
The school’s pride, the Roedean Theatre, recently underwent refurbishment to amplify its capacity to accommodate 350 seats. This professional space is equipped with superior acoustics and enhanced technical capabilities. Supported by a Theater Manager and a full-time technician, students receive training in operating and using equipment. What’s exceptional is that all performances at the theatre are stage-managed by the students themselves, providing invaluable hands-on experience in theatre production.
Art Department at Roedean School
The Art Department at Roedean School serves as a vibrant hub of creativity, nurturing girls to experiment and explore their artistic ideas. From Years 7 to 9, students delve into drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms alongside learning about great artists, craft makers, and designers, thereby understanding the historical and cultural development of art. Co-curricular clubs and workshops offer additional opportunities for exploring ideas through traditional and new media.
GCSE Course and Further Education in Arts at Roedean School
The GCSE course introduces girls to various creative processes, including printmaking, sculpture, three-dimensional media, textiles, fashion design, and lens-based media. For those inclined towards further education in the arts, the Art Department offers a range of courses tailoring the A Level Art experience, including Art, Photography, Textiles, and a Foundation Art, Design, and Media BTEC. Former Roedean students have pursued higher education and careers in fields such as Architecture, Fashion, and Product Design at prestigious institutions like Central St Martins.
