Integration of Sport into Academic Life

At Saint Felix School, physical activity forms an integral part of daily routine rather than serving as an optional add-on. The preparatory department weaves sports sessions throughout each school day, which helps children develop holistically from the moment they begin their educational journey. The program encompasses diverse disciplines—from traditional team games to individual pursuits. Students engage with:

  • Football and rugby
  • Netball and basketball
  • Badminton and racquet sports
  • Handball and hockey
  • Swimming and athletics
  • Gymnastics and dance
  • Golf and equestrian sports
  • Running club and walking club

Core Team Games

Boys pursue football from Year 3 through Year 13, with coaches bringing professional methodology to their training—teams analyze match footage, build strength, and compete in the East Anglian Independent Schools League. Rugby takes two forms: younger boys in the preparatory school learn traditional rugby fundamentals under internationally-experienced coaches, while older students shift to Rugby Sevens, a faster variant demanding agility and tactical awareness. Girls also participate actively in team sports, playing football at senior level and netball during preparatory years.

Badminton at Saint Felix School

Badminton holds flagship status here, with Mrs. Coupstake—an international-level player—leading sessions that set demanding standards for students from Year 3 to Year 13. Results validate this approach: Saint Felix School teams consistently win Suffolk County competitions and advance to regional and national tournaments. The program accommodates everyone from beginners to those representing Suffolk and Norfolk counties at official competitions, demonstrating its inclusive yet ambitious character.

Partnerships and Individual Pursuits

Local club partnerships give students access to professional facilities and coaching expertise. Collaboration with Southwold Golf Club allows younger students to develop technique before older ones tackle nine-hole rounds. Waveney Swimming Club supports talented swimmers competing regionally and nationally, while equestrian partnerships enable participation in NSEA and Just for Schools tournaments—several riders have reached national level. The running club has also produced champions, with the school regularly securing medals at county, regional, and national competitions.
