Academic Programs
Founded in 1897, Saint Felix School occupies 75 acres of rural Suffolk coastline, just minutes from the sea. This co-educational independent institution welcomes both day pupils and boarders aged 2 to 19 from over 30 countries, offering a structured progression through four distinct stages:
- Nursery (2-4 years) — early years education where children learn, grow and develop
- Pre-Prep and Prep (Reception – Year 6) — primary education combining traditional and modern methods
- Senior (Year 7 – Year 11) — secondary education with an atmosphere that values individuality
- Sixth Form (Year 12-13) — upper years preparing students for university
Individual Approach at Saint Felix School
Personalized education forms the cornerstone of this Suffolk institution’s philosophy. Small classes enable teachers to work with each student individually, while weekly mentoring sessions address everything from academic concerns to psychological wellbeing, allowing children to develop at their own pace without undue pressure.
The community employs the Harkness method — an educational strategy emphasizing discussion and collaboration. Recently updated learning spaces feature modular furniture and interactive walls that encourage lively debate and active engagement, helping students cultivate five essential qualities: curiosity, independence, ambition, reflection, and resilience.
Flexible Curriculum
Saint Felix School takes an unconventional approach to final examinations. In Year 10, only mathematics and English are compulsory for GCSE — pupils select their remaining subjects based on interests and strengths, which reduces stress and allows them to concentrate on what genuinely matters for their future careers.
Beyond the standard curriculum, students work toward the Saint Felix Diploma — a distinctive qualification encompassing community service projects and practical life skills. The institution’s coastal location also enables regular outdoor learning: from its own Forest School on-site to beach sessions and excursions across the Norfolk Broads.
