History

St Peter’s School was founded in 627 by Saint Paulinus of York alongside York Minster, making it the fourth oldest school in the world. Over its long history, the school has been led by four Christian saints—Paulinus, James the Deacon, John of Beverley, and Alcuin. For 1,400 years, it has maintained its connection with York Minster, where students still attend regular services.

Choir School

St Peter’s School trains choristers for York Minster—16 boys and 16 girls who sing eight services weekly, alternating at evensong. Together with 12 adult singers, they form the cathedral’s world-renowned choir. Young musicians participate in recordings, live broadcasts, and international tours, having performed at Notre-Dame de Paris, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and St Thomas Church in New York.

Four Keys Concept at St Peter’s School

Education at St Peter’s School centers on the “Four Keys to Life”—qualifications, skills, interests, and values. Seven principles—friendship, trust, wisdom, compassion, resilience, humility, and hope—are rooted in Christian heritage yet welcome people of all beliefs. Academic achievement complements over 80 clubs, 15 sports, and 250 teams, helping students develop diverse interests and capabilities.

Campus

St Peter’s School occupies 50 acres of riverside land in historic York’s heart, bringing together children aged 2 to 18 in a unified educational space. The campus features national-level sports fields, a 25-meter pool, a boathouse on the River Ouse, tennis courts, and two sports centers. Located two hours from both London and Edinburgh, the school offers convenient transport access.
