Why Architecture in Brighton

The practical strength of University of Brighton’s programs shows through employment outcomes—91% of graduates work in highly skilled positions within 15 months of completing their degrees. Students themselves recognize this quality, with 94.3% noting in NSS surveys how effectively instructors communicate complex material. Both undergraduate and postgraduate programs carry professional accreditation: the BA receives RIBA Part 1 recognition, while MArch holds dual RIBA and ARB accreditation, preparing graduates for Part 3 registration as architects.

Architectural and Urban Design MA

This one-year program blends architecture with art and cultural geography, challenging students to address real urban issues like climate change through interdisciplinary practice. Working alongside City Council and South Downs National Park Authority, participants explore spatial problems using advanced tools—the VR Lab, Digitisation Suite, and Igloo Immersive Display support their investigations. International workshops complement this hands-on approach, letting students develop projects that respond meaningfully to how cities evolve.

Foundation Year in Architecture and Design

The integrated foundation year builds essential skills for those pursuing architecture, interior architecture, or product design degrees. Beginning with observational drawing and physical modeling in the first term, students gradually incorporate digital techniques before completing a final project in their chosen discipline. This progression creates the portfolio foundation they’ll need while demonstrating readiness for more specialized study. Throughout the year, participants develop both analog and digital fluency alongside design thinking.

Architecture BA at University of Brighton

This three-year RIBA Part 1 program encompasses architectural thinking across applied sciences, humanities, and arts through four integrated areas. The design studio provides dedicated workspace, while humanities modules explore history and theory. Technology modules cover construction and materials, and professional practice modules introduce regulatory frameworks. Taught by practicing specialists who share insights from active projects, students gain both academic rigor and practical understanding. Constant studio access means they can pursue ambitious ideas through to realization.

Architecture RIBA Part 2 MArch

The two-year MArch carries both RIBA and ARB accreditation, preparing graduates for Part 3 examination and architect registration. Studio-based learning combines with independent research, giving students space to develop their design language and critical perspective within contemporary practice. Through live projects addressing environmental and cultural challenges, they explore architecture’s social responsibility while working across disciplines. Graduates emerge confident in their capabilities and ready to shape the built environment meaningfully.
