About the University

Started in 1964, University of Essex sits in Colchester, England’s oldest town, where its main campus covers 200 acres of parkland in Wivenhoe—less than an hour from London. Campuses

The Colchester campus encompasses 200 acres of Green Flag-awarded parkland, with a 1,655-seat sports arena, wall for climbing, and 40 acres of outdoor facilities. Nine accommodation options range from tower blocks to townhouses, with utilities, internet, and sports membership included. The second campus occupies Loughton’s Georgian Hatfields mansion, home to East 15 acting school—about half an hour from central London via the Central line, creating a completely unique rhythm and atmosphere.
