Why Law

Law at the University of Stirling ranks among Scotland’s top five programs (Complete University Guide 2025), with all its research earning world-leading or internationally excellent ratings in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. Students can study abroad through partnerships in the USA and Canada, while career-focused modules and guest lecturers prepare them for the challenges they’ll face in professional practice.

Business Law

BA (Hons) Business Law blends Scottish and UK commercial law with a broad interdisciplinary approach, spending its first two years on public, commercial, and criminal law to establish a solid foundation. The modular system lets students explore languages, management, economics, criminology, and psychology alongside legal studies, helping University of Stirling graduates understand how legal knowledge fits within wider social and business contexts.

Law with Honours at University of Stirling

The innovative BA (Hons) Law brings students face-to-face with leading academics who’ve written the textbooks for courses they teach. After gaining foundational preparation, they can specialize in areas from Scottish contract law to international human rights. The degree combines with politics, Spanish, French, business studies, criminology, or history, and graduates go on to work in corporate management while developing legal frameworks internationally—showcasing how versatile legal education can be.

Accelerated Graduate Programme

Created for degree holders entering the legal profession, the two-year LLB Law: Accelerated Graduate explores principles, concepts, and institutions of the Scottish legal system while building deep understanding of their social context. Its unique ‘Business of Law’ module develops the commercial awareness and entrepreneurial skills that employers seek. Interactive seminars with industry representatives and individual projects round out the preparation future lawyers receive at the University of Stirling.

Environmental Law

LLM Environmental Law and Climate Justice responds to surging demand for climate law experts as natural disasters become more frequent. Its interdisciplinary framework weaves together environmental economics, environmental impact assessment, and international relations. Students work with recognized authorities including Dr Annalisa Savaresi on climate law and Dr Yixian Sun from the UN’s Race to Zero campaign, while conferences like ‘Connecting with a Low-Carbon Future’ and ‘Renewables After Brexit’ offer hands-on engagement with pressing challenges.

Human Rights and Diplomacy

The world’s only LLM Human Rights and Diplomacy—developed with UN training institute UNITAR—prepares specialists who’ll defend human rights globally. Under guidance from UN professionals, students master international diplomacy, policy development, and negotiation skills. Internships at the International Court of Justice, UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNDP open doors to global careers, while a mandatory Geneva visit includes observing Human Rights Council sessions and touring the Red Cross museum.
