Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the Classroom

Verbier International School gives students opportunities they won’t find in most places. Some discover their calling in the mountains, others uncover musical talent, while many learn to lead and stand their ground.

This is how independent individuals with character emerge. Students explore different fields, set goals and achieve them—along the way, they figure out what they want to pursue at university and beyond.

Mountain Academies

Specialized ski academies at Verbier International School bring in professionals from Switzerland’s ESSV school to train students. The racing and freeride programs include pre-season preparation, trampoline sessions, and three glacier trips where snow conditions stay perfect year-round.

Every student—even kindergarteners—spends at least six hours skiing weekly during winter, while older students get three hours. Mountains teach perseverance just as effectively as textbooks do, and it becomes part of their natural rhythm.

Duke of Edinburgh Program

All teenagers over fourteen participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which teaches them to set goals, overcome challenges, and help others. They choose from four areas: volunteering, skill development, sports, and adventure expeditions across Switzerland and Europe.

These experiences shape character and life skills that prove valuable long after university. Students make their own choices, take responsibility for them, and learn teamwork through mountain expeditions when conditions aren’t forgiving.

Student Voice

The school values creativity as both a problem-solving tool and self-expression—from painting to theater, woodworking to chess. Christmas performances become showcases where each class displays their talents, while Verbier Music Academy connects students with professional musicians and artists.

The Student Council operates with two representatives from each class who meet weekly to discuss important matters. Meanwhile, the debate club teaches students argumentation, public speaking, and critical thinking—skills that real leaders need.
