Middle School
From age 14, CATS College Cambridge offers two pathways. The first is the classic GCSE, spanning six terms and culminating in a full British qualification. The second, Pre-A Level, runs for one to three terms—a shorter route that introduces teenagers to the British system while strengthening their English before they commit to serious specialization.
GCSE covers mandatory fundamentals, then branches into electives based on personal interests. This approach lets them explore different fields—from sciences to creative arts—and figure out what they’d like to pursue at A Level or university later.
Core classes:
- English language and literature
- Math, physics, chemistry, biology
- Additionally: physical education
Elective subjects:
- French
- History, geography
- Photography, art and design
- Technology, computer science
- Business
A Level at CATS College Cambridge
A Level is the standard route into British universities for those aged 15.5 and older. The program runs six terms starting in September or five from the beginning of the year. Students choose three main subjects, and for non-native speakers, an English language course is added. Final exams determine university admission directly.
Around fifteen subjects are available at CATS College Cambridge, which can be combined across six blocks to match a future specialization. Medicine requires biology, chemistry, and mathematics, while engineering calls for physics, mathematics, and further math. Results go from A* to E, with most focus on final tests in August, though some disciplines include coursework.
Available subjects:
- Biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics
- Psychology, social studies
- History
- Business, economics
- Computer science
- Art and design
- Portuguese, Chinese, Turkish, Russian
University Preparation
The University Foundation Programme bridges secondary education in one’s home country and British universities for those aged 16.5 and above. It runs three terms from September or two from January, and 95 out of the UK’s top 100 universities accept it, including 19 of the 24 Russell Group institutions. It’s designed specifically for international students who need to adapt to British academic standards.
Unlike A Level, this program places greater emphasis on coursework, which accounts for 30% of the final grade. This mirrors university format and lowers test stress. Students select three school subjects aligned with their future university major, while everyone takes academic English—which also develops essential university skills.
Subject options:
- Chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics
- Psychology, sociology
- Business, economics
- Visual arts
Support
CATS College Cambridge has built its system specifically for international students, who often find studying rigorous content in English challenging. Language support is woven into lessons, and teachers take a collaborative approach—staying in close contact with each other and with mentors helps teenagers master both the language and the material simultaneously.
Each student’s progress is tracked through ALIS assessment, which predicts final grades in every subject from the start of the year. Based on these insights, an individual development plan is created, and personal tutors monitor not just academic performance but overall wellbeing. When difficulties arise—whether with assignments or homesickness—they arrange additional help right away.
