Three Houses
Hazlegrove Prep School accommodates students from Years 3 through 8 across three distinct boarding houses, each with its own character and community. Younger children share larger dormitories, while older students gradually transition into smaller rooms as they progress through the years. Blackford House welcomes girls in rooms ranging from 5 to 12 beds, with Year 8 students enjoying their own common room. Meanwhile, Lankester House draws on Arthurian legends for its décor and houses boys from Years 3 to 6 in six-bed dormitories, whereas School House offers older boys spacious accommodation and a large common room for evening quizzes and films.
Weekend Schedule
The boarding calendar at Hazlegrove Prep School operates on a flexible framework that allows families to plan their time together. At the beginning and end of each term, everyone remains on campus for designated weekends. During other weeks, children depart after Friday lessons or Saturday school and return by Sunday evening. For those not ready for full boarding, the flexible accommodation program offers one to four nights per week with a permanent assigned space.
Support at Hazlegrove Prep School
Houseparents reside in each building, supported by four to six adults on evening duty—including matrons, assistants, and other staff members. More than 25 adults live permanently on the grounds, among them teaching families, which creates the atmosphere of an extended household. This environment ensures that every child receives individual attention throughout the day, while the homely feel of the main campus provides a sense of security and care built on trust rather than mere supervision.
Leisure and Daily Life
Campus weekends feature trips to water parks, beaches, Wookey Hole caves, and bowling alleys. On the grounds, children cycle and rollerblade, swim in the pool, and explore the forest school. Evenings unfold with billiards, board games, films accompanied by popcorn and hot chocolate, touch rugby, and quizzes. Students also care for the rabbits, guinea pigs, and resident cats and dogs, turning ordinary days into small adventures.
