Clubs for Young Students

Hazlegrove Prep School offers younger students free music studios, including percussion, choir, and the Fiddly Fingers ensemble, where Year 1–2 violinists perform at school concerts. Experienced teachers lead these groups of up to 12 children. Sports sections run alongside these offerings—tennis, ballet, golf with a professional coach, and forest school. Speech and drama lessons are built into the Year 2 schedule, with timing coordinated at the start of each term.

Boarding Life

After lessons, boarders play football and rugby, rollerblade and cycle, swim, work on art projects, and build with Lego. The 200-acre campus becomes their playground, where they enjoy forest games and rounders outdoors. Seasonal traditions add warmth to this routine: autumn bonfires, spring bike rides, evening hot chocolate, and board games before bed. Flexible boarding allows students from Year 3 onwards to join during weekdays and weekends, securing a permanent place in this community that makes up a third of the school.

Weekend Program

Around 50–60 boarders stay for weekends, heading out on trips to the coast, fishing in Lyme Regis, water parks, and Wookey Hole caves. Somerset county, with its picnic routes and walking trails, becomes part of life at Hazlegrove. On campus itself, there’s a go-kart track and pizza oven, along with inflatable domes, zorbing balls, and tree climbing. Mandatory weekends at the start and end of each term bring all boarders together for a Christmas feast and traditional events that strengthen friendships.

Trips at Hazlegrove Prep School

Educational excursions from Year 1 to 8 are woven into Hazlegrove’s curriculum: first-years explore Stourhead, fifth-years visit the Tank Museum in Bovington, and eighth-years study geography at Lulworth Cove coastline. The school covers transport, tickets, and workshops. Residential programs begin with Year 4 camping, followed by four nights at Naturesbase in Wales, a week of activities at River Dart, and surfing with coastal climbing in Cornwall. Additionally, ski trips run every two years, and the May Exmoor Challenge—a 16-mile route with navigation and quizzes—sees Hazlegrove competing successfully in the junior category.
