San Patricio Toledo Language Department is committed to promoting and celebrating linguistic diversity across all their International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. They recognize the significance of language in personal development, cultural identity, and intercultural understanding.

At San Patricio Toledo, around 50% of the timetable and subjects are taught in Spanish, while the remaining 50% are taught in English, starting from PYP 1 to MYP 4. To support international boarding students, language assistance in English is provided for subjects delivered in Spanish. Additionally, international students have the option to take exams and present personal projects in English during MYP 4.

The Language Department puts great emphasis on English language proficiency. In fact, students in PYP 4 are prepared for the Cambridge YLE exams, which eventually lead to the Preliminary English Test (B1) by 9th grade. MYP and DP students are also well-prepared for Cambridge University ESOL exams, reaching First Certificate (B2) or Advanced (C1) levels by the end of the MYP program.

Moreover, French and German language stimulation classes are offered from the ages of 3 to 10 in the PYP curriculum. These classes dedicate 6% of the working week to each language. In MYP and DP, French and German are taught as third languages, with options for official exams such as Göethe for German and DELF for French.

In terms of language subjects, San Patricio Toledo offers Language A: Language and Literature courses in English A and Spanish A. Additionally, support is available for students whose mother tongue is neither English nor Spanish. As for Language B courses, students have the opportunity to study a second language, including English, Spanish, French, and German, depending on their interests and enrollment.
To ensure appropriate challenge and skill development, the proficiency level in the second language is assessed before DP.

Moving on to the University Entrance Preparation at San Patricio Toledo, they have a dedicated University Guidance Program to help students with their university interests and career paths. Three orientation experts provide guidance based on students’ preferences and vocations. In 4th MYP, psycho-pedagogical tests and individual interviews take place to assist students in choosing the right subjects for the Diploma program.
In the Professional Classroom Program, 1st Diploma students gain real-world work experience in companies related to their vocational interests. Furthermore, students in 1st and 2nd Diploma have weekly University Counseling sessions, which involve creating individualized university plans, receiving application assistance, and participating in practical sessions on cover letter and portfolio writing.

San Patricio Toledo also ensures that students have access to information and guidance from national and international universities. They organize an annual College Fair, providing opportunities for students to interact with representatives from different universities. Additionally, the school utilizes the international platform Unifrog to assist Diploma students in the university application process, offering tailored information and support from the counseling department, subject teachers, and pastoral tutor.

In summary, San Patricio Toledo’s Language Department prioritizes linguistic diversity, supporting students in Spanish and English proficiency. They offer stimulating language classes from a young age and provide comprehensive language programs throughout the IB curriculum. Furthermore, the University Guidance Program aids students in their university preparations, offering guidance, practical sessions, and access to relevant information and opportunities.
