Navigating Entry to Kent College Canterbury: A Student Guide

Kent College Canterbury, known for its academic rigor, extensive co-curricular offerings, and Christian values, offers multiple entry points for new students. Here’s how we, the students, experienced the process, from initial registration to finally becoming a part of the school community.

Starting in Year 7 (11+)

Registration: Our parents started by registering us online and paid a non-refundable fee to kickstart the process.

Entrance Assessment: We then took exams in English, Mathematics, and Non-Verbal Reasoning towards the end of January, which were our first academic steps towards joining the community.

Interview: A friendly ‘getting to know you’ session was arranged for us and our parents with a member of the Senior Management Team, making the process feel personal and welcoming.

School Report: The school asked for a report from our current schools, adding to the holistic view of our academic and personal backgrounds.

Offers: Successful candidates among us received our offers in February, with the next step being the signing of a Parents’ Contract to confirm our places.

Year 9 (13+) and Beyond

For entry into Year 8 and above, the process involved entrance exams in English, Mathematics, and Non-Verbal Reasoning, similar to Year 7 but tailored to our prospective year groups. An interview and a current school report were also essential parts of the process, ensuring that we were a good fit for Kent College and vice versa.

Advancing to Year 12 (16+)

GCSE Results: Offers for Sixth Form were generally based on our mock GCSE results, emphasizing the importance of consistent academic performance.

Interview: We had discussions with the Head or a member of the Senior Management Team, providing a chance to express our ambitions and how Kent College could help us achieve them.

Scholarship Assessments: For those of us aiming for scholarships, we underwent additional assessments, showcasing our talents and potential contributions to the school.

International Students

Kent College Canterbury welcomes students from around the globe. International students often join the International Study Centre, preparing them for exams like the IGCSE and IB English B. Support for English as an Additional Language (EAL) and guidance on visa and immigration requirements are part of the package, ensuring a smooth transition to the school.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships and bursaries are available, supporting students with various talents and financial needs. Applications for these are tied to the registration process, with a home visit and interview often part of the assessment.

Additional Opportunities

Taster Days: Prospective students can arrange to spend a day at the school, getting a real feel for life at Kent College.

Learning Support: The school’s commitment to supporting all students includes offering learning support and individual tuition for those who need it.
