Boarding System
Loretto School runs four accommodation formats: full seven-day boarding, weekly from Monday to Saturday, a flexible option covering any three nights, and ad-hoc stays upon request. This range lets families choose what works best while keeping their child embedded in the rhythm of school life. Weekly boarders stay through Saturday sports matches, and those on flexible schedules coordinate overnight plans each Monday, which ensures everyone can participate fully in lessons and co-curricular pursuits.
Houses at Loretto School
Five residences welcome students from Year 7 onward, forming the heart of daily life under permanent teams of houseparents. Boarders mix with weekly and day pupils here, creating a genuine family feel. Each teenager joins a small group with a personal tutor who meets them daily for conversations and maintains regular contact with parents. Meanwhile, boarding teams provide oversight, building relationships grounded in honesty and mutual respect across age groups.
Daily Life and Leisure
The day begins with communal breakfast before registration at 8:20, includes seven lessons with embedded sports sessions, and closes with a shared dinner. Structured homework hours follow, balancing academic work with downtime. Saturdays feature matches, while those not competing attend the Saturday Enrichment programme from 9:00 to 12:00. Boarders also take part in varied weekend activities or enjoy free time in Musselburgh town centre.
International Environment
Loretto School brings together students from 28 nationalities, fostering a culturally diverse community without discrimination. Around a third of senior pupils arrive from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa, enriching the environment with global perspectives. The English as an Additional Language department runs personalised sessions in small groups of three to five, helping students strengthen their command of the language, tackle academic subjects, and prepare intensively for IELTS within a year.
