Location

Spanning 34 hectares of protected coastline in East Lothian, the campus sits just 10 kilometers from Edinburgh. This proximity brings natural surroundings together with capital infrastructure—Waverley Station and the airport both lie within 20 minutes’ reach. The grounds encompass 20 buildings, from the historic Pinkie House to purpose-built facilities, while dedicated playing fields at Newfield and Pinkie create a self-contained environment where students live and train.

Academic Facilities

Bright classrooms, science laboratories, and language rooms form the core learning spaces, supported by a resource center that houses the library. Younger pupils work in the separate Colin Thompson Hall, which helps divide the campus by age group. Sixth-formers, meanwhile, study in their own autonomous building—a hub featuring independent study zones, a computer suite, and social areas. Career guidance operates from this same space, where conditions support preparation for university life and beyond.

Sports Infrastructure at Loretto School

The Sports Hall contains four badminton courts, a basketball area, and cricket boxes, alongside dedicated fitness and rowing facilities. Outside, the blue AstroTurf fields—nicknamed “Smurf Turf” by students—accommodate various sports, joined by 12 tennis courts and cricket nets. The renowned Golf Academy operates year-round under three PGA coaches, combining an indoor center with professional equipment and outdoor practice areas across the grounds.

Creative Spaces

Converted from a sports hall, the theatre earned a Royal Institute of British Architects award—one of only 14 such recognitions in Britain. This transformation paired architectural merit with performance functionality. The Music School operates as a standalone building where concert halls and rehearsal rooms host both individual lessons and orchestral sessions. The Art Centre and Dance & Drama Studio extend these creative opportunities, providing workshops and a professional space for choreography.
