Location

Royal High School Bath sits in historic Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage site that lies just ninety minutes by rail from London. The city draws visitors to its Roman baths and Georgian architecture while offering students one of Britain’s safest urban environments. Transport connections make the school readily accessible—Bristol is twenty minutes away, Heathrow Airport about two hours by car—and new bus routes now link it to nearby towns including Tetbury, Frome, and Chippenham.

Campus Grounds

The Junior School occupies Cranwell House, where eleven acres of secure outdoor space let girls learn surrounded by nature. Its grounds include a vegetable greenhouse, an open-air performance stage, and a Celtic roundhouse built from traditional materials. Meanwhile, the senior campus inhabits a neo-Gothic building on Lansdown Road, where historic architecture meets contemporary facilities. Since 2026, Years 5 and 6 have joined the older students here, so girls aged nine to eighteen now share a single site with panoramic city views.

Infrastructure

Royal High School Bath opened its £2 million Steinway Music School in 2020, housing ten Steinway grand pianos and a sixty-seat concert hall. This prestigious Steinway status—held by just 250 schools worldwide—grants students access to masterclasses with renowned musicians. Beyond this center, the campus features an art block, modern library, fitness suite, and all-weather sports pitches. Girls also use facilities at the University of Bath alongside local tennis clubs, external stables, and the Bath Dolphins pool.

The Royal High School Bath campus also includes:

  • Two refurbished boarding houses with 140 places, spacious common rooms and modern kitchens
  • Science laboratories for biology, chemistry and physics
  • Computer classrooms and sound recording studios
  • Spaces for design, photography and technology

Royal High School Bath Facilities

At the Junior School, distinctive spaces support investigative learning: a pottery kiln, greenhouse, nature observation zones, and a pond where girls garden year-round, stage outdoor performances, and study ecosystems in the open air. The senior campus provides specialized workshops for painting and sculpture, while its boarding houses offer comfortable lounges and laundry facilities. The dining hall serves varied menus that accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and medical dietary needs through its team of chefs and a dedicated dietitian.
