United Campus

Starting September 2026, Royal High School Bath brings together Years 5 and 6 at its Lansdown Road campus, creating a single environment for girls aged 9 to 18. This makes it the only school in the region offering fully integrated education from junior years through graduation. While younger students gain access to science labs, music studios, and specialist teachers from the senior school, they maintain their own dedicated learning spaces—ensuring a smooth transition that builds academic confidence from an early age.

Steinway School Status

As one of 250 Steinway Music Schools worldwide, Royal High School Bath provides its students with 10 Steinway grands, including a concert Model B housed in a 60-seat recital hall. The £2 million music facility, which opened in 2020, connects students to masterclasses with pianists like Joanna MacGregor and Charles Owen, collaborative projects with Bath Philharmonia, and pathways to leading conservatoires. Beyond traditional ensembles, the school runs a Samba Band, recording studio, and A Level Music Technology course.

Royal Heritage

Founded in 1865 as the Royal School for Daughters of Officers of the Army, Royal High School Bath received early patronage from Queen Victoria, who contributed funds to support daughters of military officers. Its first Lady Superintendent, Emmeline Kingdon, came recommended by Florence Nightingale in 1864. In 1998, Royal merged with Bath High School, which had been established in 1875 as one of the first Girls’ Day School Trust institutions outside London.

GDST Network

Royal High School Bath belongs to the Girls’ Day School Trust, Britain’s largest educational charity, encompassing 26 schools and over 100,000 alumnae. Founded 150 years ago to provide girls with the same rigorous academic opportunities as their brothers, GDST continues this mission today. The Girls’ Futures Report, surveying more than 5,800 students, revealed that those attending GDST schools demonstrate greater confidence in achieving their goals, frequently take on leadership roles, and reject the notion that gender limits their potential.
