Cranwell Discovery

Royal High School Bath developed Cranwell Discovery for younger students, drawing on Italy’s Reggio Emilia model where children co-author their education. Through grade 6, girls learn via project inquiry, rotating themes, and creative exploration—building independent thinking and questioning skills. Outdoor learning weaves through naturally: across the 11-acre campus, they grow vegetables in a recycled greenhouse, work with a clay oven, and study the pond, fostering civic awareness and worldly connection.

GCSE at Royal High School Bath

For grades 10–11, Royal High School Bath structures GCSE and IGCSE around a mandatory core—English, mathematics, sciences, physical education—while offering four choice blocks: languages, open options, and extensions. Rather than chasing top marks, exam specifications are chosen for depth and engagement that prepare students for sixth form and an AI-shaped future. Flexibility matters: dance and Classical Greek run outside timetables, and some girls take fewer subjects when quality trumps quantity.

Core subjects: English language and literature, mathematics, dual sciences, physical education, RSHE (non-examined). One language is also required—French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, or EAL course for international students.

Free choice (three subjects):

• Design and technology, food preparation, geography, history, Latin
• Music, physical education, religious studies (philosophy and ethics)

Extension options (one subject):

• Triple sciences, accelerated foreign language
• Short course religious studies, double qualification for triple time

A-Level

Royal High School Bath builds sixth form around A-Levels—Britain’s university prep standard allowing deep study of up to four subjects. The format cultivates analytical thinking, independence, and intellectual stamina that admissions teams prize. With 26 disciplines available in any combination—from economics, art history, and politics to photography and psychology—the flexibility serves Oxford-bound scholars, creative minds, and aspiring engineers alike.

Additional Opportunities

Alongside A-Levels, sixth formers select enrichment courses that strengthen university applications or develop leadership and creative interests—British Sign Language, financial services, creative writing, TEFL, culinary arts, sports and dance leadership, criminology. Language pathways include business French, German, and Spanish, HSK Mandarin certification, and A-Level Mandarin for native speakers. International students can access a one-year GCSE intensive covering sciences, languages (modern and classical), humanities, arts, and physical disciplines to build academic confidence quickly.
