About the School

Mount Kelly sits on 40 hectares of hills and forests in Tavistock, right at the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Its infrastructure blends seamlessly with the surrounding nature, creating an environment where students can truly thrive. Despite being just 20 minutes from Plymouth, the campus enjoys the complete tranquility of countryside life. Dartmoor becomes a natural playground for expeditions and hikes, teaching students to appreciate the world around them.

Sports Facilities at Mount Kelly

The swimming complex features an Olympic 50-meter indoor pool alongside a 25-meter indoor pool and an outdoor heated pool for summer. These facilities support elite swimming programs year-round. Beyond the pools, Mount Kelly offers three all-weather artificial pitches (two with lighting), a 700-square-meter sports hall, and four squash courts. The Simply Outdoors center adds a ropes course, shooting range, and marked cross-country trails.

Creative Workshops

The arts department houses its own gallery, two art studios, a photography studio, and a pottery workshop. Sixth formers get personal workspace styled like university studios, which helps them develop independence and creative maturity. There’s also a technology workshop equipped with professional tools for woodworking, metalworking, and plastics. The modern music school building includes a specialized studio, theater, and 14 separate practice rooms for individual sessions.

Natural Classroom

The campus features a greenhouse, pond, and ecological zone where students grow plants and study ecosystems. The River Tavy flows along the estate’s boundary, while the school’s own lake serves as a field research site. The entire campus acts as an open-air classroom for outdoor learning and the Shackleton Programme. Younger children attend regular Forest School sessions, where they explore the natural world through play and discovery.
