Sport’s Role
Mount Kelly builds its life around athletics, fostering respect, team spirit, and commitment. Whether someone’s taking their first steps on the field or aiming for Olympic heights, the pursuit of excellence feels natural here. The calendar divides into three seasons: boys play rugby and girls hockey in autumn, they swap in spring, then everyone shifts to cricket, athletics, and tennis for summer. Before each season begins, students can train under head coaches who develop individual skills while building team culture through The Mount Kelly Way methodology.
Swimming Academy
Since 1978, Mount Kelly has produced 115 international swimmers, with 36 representing their countries at Olympics and Commonwealth Games. The trophy cabinet holds 8 Olympic medals, 16 from Commonwealth Games, and 32 Paralympic honors. When the Olympic-standard 50-meter pool opened in 2016, the program expanded significantly. The team has won the prestigious National Arena League Cup twice, while twelve swimmers regularly make national squads. During the 2021-2022 season, four students medaled at European Junior Championships in Romania, and over a hundred qualified for British Summer Championships.
Girls’ Football at Mount Kelly
Partnering with Chelsea FC Foundation, Mount Kelly launched a unique football program for girls aged 9 to 18. Talented players combine academics with professional training that follows standards from one of Europe’s top clubs. The U18 squad has claimed back-to-back national ISFA championships. Selection happens both at the school and Chelsea’s Cobham training base, where promising candidates can earn sports scholarships. This partnership gives access to methodologies from a leading club that harnesses sport’s power to motivate and inspire young people.
Campus Facilities
Three artificial pitches (two floodlit) accommodate evening sessions, while grass fields serve rugby and cricket. There’s an indoor sports hall plus four squash courts. Swimmers train in two covered pools—50-meter and 25-meter Olympic standards—supplemented by a heated outdoor pool in summer. Teams regularly travel abroad: rugby players to Canada, hockey to Holland, cricket to Dubai. The location beside Dartmoor National Park provides ideal cross-country routes.
