Location

Orwell Park School occupies 110 acres of parkland in Nacton village near Ipswich, Suffolk. The estate centers on a late Georgian mansion from the 18th century that overlooks the Orwell estuary—once home to Admiral Vernon and later to Colonel Tomlin, who founded Felixstowe port. Since relocating here from Aldeburgh in 1937, the campus has evolved into a blend of period architecture and contemporary facilities, including a dedicated junior building, a sports complex, and specialized studios for music and creative arts.

Sports Facilities

Twenty-five teams train across the grounds, which feature a floodlit artificial pitch, tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course. Beyond the main gym and pool, students can use squash courts and an outdoor obstacle course. Younger pupils enjoy play areas and Forest School sessions in woodland zones, while coaches lead tennis practice and weekend boarders venture out for swimming in Colchester or visits to the Duxford aviation museum.

Creative Spaces

The music department inhabits the mansion’s basement halls, where pianos and fine acoustics meet a recording studio and music technology room. Sixty instruments have dedicated lockers, and performances showcase the Steinway Model D. Meanwhile, theatrical productions—from Bugsy Malone to Shrek The Musical—take the stage built into the sports hall, while the Pre-Prep wing hosts its own music classroom alongside an open area for smaller concerts.

Orwell Park School Boarding

The renovated boarding house resides in the historic 18th-century wing, where boys and girls occupy separate floors in bright, high-ceilinged rooms overlooking the park. Families choose between full boarding, weekly stays, or flexi arrangements for one or two nights. Full boarders enjoy weekend outings—strawberry picking, trips to Pleasurewood Hills theme park, camping adventures, or shopping at Bluewater Centre—while weekly students head home on Fridays.
