Structure

Orwell Park School welcomes children aged 2 to 13, organizing them into a junior stage—from nursery through Year 4—and a senior division where pupils in Years 5 through 8 prepare for senior school entrance. Each student receives a form tutor who communicates with parents and monitors progress. Meanwhile, the House system divides everyone into Blue Boars, Green Dragons, Red Lions, and Yellow Tigers, creating communities where children compete, develop leadership, and find additional support.

Junior Stage

From age two, every child in nursery and Reception connects with a mentor who helps them settle and feel secure, while the digital diary Tapestry captures their work and photos before transitioning into later years. Free after-school care runs until 5 p.m., offering gardening, painting, storytelling, and fabric design. As pupils reach Years 1 and 2, they join clubs for cooking, chess, rugby, netball, and golf, while specialist teachers introduce French, digital skills, music, and PE.

Preparatory School

From Year 3 onward, Orwell Park School balances a classical curriculum—Latin begins in Year 6—with modern teaching methods that encourage academic independence. By the time final exams arrive, students take responsibility for their learning and time management. Apple technology appears throughout: two IT suites, a Music Technology room, design hubs, and mobile devices support lessons. Year 8 pupils attend weekly sessions preparing for entrance tests, while Years 6 and 7 participate in the OPS Challenge, mirroring the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Subjects at Orwell Park School

The curriculum spans 16 disciplines, including some unusual for prep schools. All pupils from Year 3 through Year 8 study art, design, drama, and music alongside rigorous academic preparation for competitive exams. Beyond the core subjects—English, mathematics, sciences, geography, and history—they explore:

  • Latin
  • Critical thinking
  • Theology, philosophy, and ethics
  • Design and technology
  • Digital skills
  • Foreign languages
  • Life skills

Graduates regularly secure scholarships at institutions like Eton, Winchester, Benenden, Harrow, Oundle, and Brighton College, confirming the strength of these programs.
