Extracurricular Activities

Clubs

Orwell Park School runs afternoon sessions as a rotating carousel. Third and fourth graders move through an obligatory cycle—golf, music, drama, tennis, squash, handicrafts—while choosing between strength training, eco-club, or forest games. Fifth graders gain access to science club, girls’ rugby, and Christmas crafts, while those in Year 6 spend their weeks on the OPS Challenge, a Duke of Edinburgh-style program that has them camping in the school’s own woodlands.

Additional clubs:

  • Kit car building
  • Photography
  • Street dance
  • Clay pigeon shooting
  • Sailing

Trips

Orwell Park School’s international itineraries range from canoeing France’s Ardèche River to language immersion in Normandy, alongside music and sports tours across Britain. Multi-day adventure programs at PGL centers complement these journeys. Closer to home, students explore Suffolk’s coastline, camp out during OPS Challenge expeditions, and visit Minsmere Reserve and the Anglo-Saxon burial site at Sutton Hoo, where history meets ecology.

Mayo College Exchange

In February 2020, eighteen students from Orwell Park School traveled to Mayo College, India’s “Eton of the East.” Their hosts greeted them with fanfares, music, and a football match. Days began at 5 a.m. and unfolded through shared lessons—English, debates, geography, cooking, art—and local cuisine. The highlight came when the group performed before 800 spectators at an outdoor concert, then explored Jaipur, Agra, and the Taj Mahal at dawn.

Sport at Orwell Park School

Orwell Park School follows a “Sport for All” philosophy, fielding up to 25 teams simultaneously on match days to include everyone from beginners to national squad members. Boys play rugby, hockey, and cricket; girls compete in hockey, netball, and cricket, rotating with the terms. The school’s 110-acre campus supports these programs through its artificial pitches, pool, and squash courts, while athletics, swimming, tennis, cross-country, football, gymnastics, karate, golf, and sailing expand the range. The annual Motorsport Day brings together simulators, pit-stop challenges, design workshops, a racing car exhibition, and student-led live broadcasting.
