Main Sports

Orwell Park School structures its sports program by trimester, with boys playing rugby, hockey, and cricket, while girls participate in hockey, netball, and cricket. The school fields up to 25 teams on game days, allowing everyone to join. Graduates regularly secure sports scholarships at senior schools, and national athletes train alongside beginners. Weekly matches begin in Year 3, helping students explore multiple disciplines and find their preferred sport through seasonal rotations.

Variety

Beyond team games, students choose from 13 sports—ranging from football and badminton to sailing and equestrian eventing. Athletics and cross-country build endurance, while karate and gymnastics expand physical capabilities; skiing and swimming round out the annual cycle. The school’s grounds feature a 9-hole golf course spanning 110 acres along the River Orwell. Squash courts, an outdoor pool, and tennis facilities operate year-round, with professional coaches preparing students for tournaments and national competitions.

Orwell Park School Infrastructure

The school’s facilities include an assault course, a floodlit artificial pitch for evening sessions, and a multi-purpose sports hall, enabling year-round training regardless of weather. Extensive playing fields and forest trails serve as venues for cross-country and informal play. This blend of state-of-the-art surfaces and natural routes creates an environment where every child finds their ideal space for activity and coordination development.

Early Start

Physical education begins in the early years, establishing motor skill foundations. Extracurricular hockey and tennis start in Years 1–2, allowing young students to master basic techniques before entering the main school. Game days commence in Year 3, when children compete against other schools. This progression—from rugby through tennis to competitive tournaments—ensures continuous development, so that by graduation, students can confidently choose their sporting specialization.
