Studying Architecture at LBU
Founded in 1903, the School of Architecture in Leeds holds ARB and RIBA accreditation while maintaining this status among Britain’s oldest architecture schools. The school operates within Broadcasting Place—a structure CTBUH recognized in 2010 as among the world’s finest high-rise buildings. Students work with 3D printers, laser cutters, and CAD equipment, alongside the Landscape Resource Centre where bio-gardens support experimental landscape practice. Leeds Beckett University also runs its own RIBA-accredited Project Office, giving students hands-on experience with real commissions for non-profit groups.
MArch Architecture program at Leeds Beckett University
This two-year master’s program carries ARB and RIBA Part 2 accreditation, designed specifically for those holding RIBA Part 1 who seek professional credentials as architects. The curriculum puts sustainable design and ethical practice at its core, moving from work on real sites through to research projects that emphasize contemporary technologies and environmental responsibility.
Interior Design (BA Hons)
The three-year undergraduate Interior Design program at Leeds Beckett focuses on renovation and spatial reimagining—addressing both climate challenges and the pressures on our built environment. First-year students learn alongside their peers from architecture and landscape programs before moving into client-based assignments and workshop sessions at Broadcasting Place, where theory meets tangible application.
Landscape Architecture (MA)
With more than fifty years of expertise at Leeds Beckett University in training landscape specialists, this one-year master’s program holds Landscape Institute accreditation. Students engage with the Landscape Resource Centre while traveling to sites across Britain and abroad, developing skills in ecology, planting design, and construction techniques that respond to contemporary environmental demands.
Fast-Track Programs
If you have RIBA Part 1 and a year of work experience, the one-year intensive MArch Architecture (Advanced)—the first ARB-approved program of its kind in Britain—offers an accelerated route. Meanwhile, the four-year Integrated Master of Architecture combines undergraduate and graduate studies in a single cycle, shortening the standard professional pathway by a year; students can complete a placement between the third and fourth years. Those who wish can exit after three years holding one of these degrees:
- BA (Hons) Architecture
- BA (Hons) Architecture in Ecologies & Environment
- BA (Hons) Architectural History & Theory
